Nash's Natter

Last night BigDawg had a DADS meeting, so I had single parent duty. I let Seger out and of course he is in full SPRING mode and runs around the neighborhood since it was 72 degrees. Nash was upstairs in my bedroom watching a movie while I changed clothes after work, and I saw Seger take off after a neighborhood walker….so I told Nash I was going to go get Seger and would be right back, to stay in my bedroom.

I get home after chasing Seger around (he had to see every dog, even the 200 lb great dane that is being rescued by a neighbor and isn't too friendly) so it took me about 15 minutes to get back home. I get home and Nash is on the phone, I hear, "ok, yeah, I will tell her, bye." I ask who was on the phone and he says "Daddy".

I look at my cell phone and I have EIGHT missed calls! All from Big Dawg.

I call him back and was told Nash told him:

Mommy isn't here
She went to find Seger in the neighborhood
Seger chased Charlie's dogs
Seger got hit by a car, he's in big trouble
Mommy is mad
You better come home.

I think he met his "3-4 word speech utterance" goal. ahem.

When he wants daddy home, he knows how to do it.

Its always something.....Nash's Natter

I am finding that Nash is really tired of mom. Not all the time, but most of the time. Like when I chaparoned his class to the Children's Museum last week; I had four in my group including my independent boy. He wanted to be as far away from me as possible, practically walked 15 paces behind me at all times. He of course was thrilled to do this with the rest of the pack tagging along at the same pace, but I could not be too close, uh uh. Not allowed.

Then there is the weekend review of homework; touchmath and reading mostly. We reviewed his spelling words which he already could read (doing contractions now)and could tell me that "don't" is both don't and do not. Then we did a sheet of touch math where he is doing "doubles" by himself now, and doing a whole sheet of problems without me interfering, which is good for his independent little self. I asked him to go read four books, then come back to finish the touch math. He read the books, but would not return to the table. (he has a reading area with baskets of books). I finally bribed him got him to come back to the table, and when I placed a few more touch math worksheets in front of him, he stood up, looked at me, and said I HAVE HAD IT UP TO HERE, complete with hand motion over the top of his head.

uh, okay. Our communication was quite clear on that one.

Nash's Natter

I came home yesterday, and Big Dawg was in the kitchen, Nash in the living room wrestling with Seger. I kiss my men hello, and give Seger a squeeze, and Nash whispers:

Mom, come here.
I have a secret.

I bend down, and he whispers in my ear.

Daddy just farted.

I look over at Big Dawg who grins sheepishly and replies "guess we better watch what we talk about now that we have a tattle tale"!

Got us a little smarty pants..........

so Nash has picked up on some bad language, remember this post??
Well the F-bomb has been dropped at school frequently lately. The math and writing is getting more difficult for him, and so his reactions are well.....appropriate but not for 2nd graders!

So we started using the term "potty words" and told him if he needed to say those "potty words" he needed to go to the bathroom to say them, that we will not listen to them. It's helping a little, but we just started it so who knows what will happen at school. I let them know our new tactic though.

So.... Nash cursed in the shower, and Jeff said he didn't want to hear any "potty words"....and Nash said

"But I am in the bathroom!"

Guess its working...........

Nash's Natter

We have always discussed with Nash his having Down syndrome. Sometimes its in passing like "she has Down syndrome too, just like you. Isn't that cool?" or I will explain how I know sometimes it gets more difficult to learn and to talk to his friends because he has Down syndrome, or about characteristics, as its like his brown hair, hazel eyes, etc...

I feel its important not to dwell on it, but incorporate it. I feel I would do that also if we adopted a child; talk about how he/she was born in our hearts, etc.

so with that said, Nash knows he has Down syndrome, and lately talks about it more. He asks for shows and says "Corky has Down syndrome, he's cool". Or when asking to see Child King; "I want Jeremy, Down syndrome." He picked up the copy of Mr. Blue Sky (TM I need to send that to you, remind me) and he said "Down syndrome movie". He sees pictures of our kids from the Tri21 board and says "William has Down syndrome".

Well, we drove into the Ft Worth Zoo and there was a young gal of Asian descent at the ticket booth. Nash yells out "SHE HAS DOWN SYNDROME"!! OMG.

THEN, we go out to eat at Chili's and Jeff and I were pretty sure an adorable boy in the boy behind us had Down syndrome, but Nash confirmed it when he said " HE IS DOWN SYNDROME" and pointed to him.

Now we need to work on Political Correctness and Person First Language!

Weekend Funnies

Nash's Natter:

Nash woke up early this morning and since it was Jeff's sleep in day, I went back to bed in the spare bedroom with him. Nash leans over and puts his nose close to my open mouth....and says

"Breath Poop".

Yes, morning breath is lovely eh?

--------------------------------------------

My wonderful neighbor (who has her house up For Sale By Owner and I am SO sad) told me a little funny. Her daughter is 9 and was recently diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome. Another neighborhood gal came over to their house and asked if she was going to school soon. Her mom (my neighbor) told her that her daughter was doing better, and that she has irritable bowel syndrome. Her daughters friends response?

She has Down syndrome too!?!?!?!

I guess Nash's Down syndrome is contagious.

Nash's Natter

Nash varies his prayers every night. He always includes Mom, Dad, Seger, and sometimes adds a generic "friends" and "teachers". Usually he adds specific names though.

Tonights prayer:

god bless Lukie (his Ty black lab given to him by a co-worker of Jeff's about 6 years ago who he sleeps with each night and is missing a nose), Seger, Mommy, Daddy, Edy (gal from 1st grade class), Gaga, Grandma, and "leaving the toilet seat down."

Amen from Mommy on that one!

How to lose 30 pounds fast........

Nash and I were snuggling the other night and the conversation went like this:

Nash: Let me see your belly.

Mom: No honey, we don't do raspberries anymore on bellies.

Nash: It's BIG like Mrs. Gaby!

Mrs. Gaby is the first grade teacher across the hall that is due in December.

Ok, where is that eliptical?????

Busted Big Time - Get It Down 31 for 21: Post 8

Get It Down; 31 for 21

Nash dropped the "F" bomb this weekend. He said out of the blue "F'ing house". He said it about 4 times until I just couldn't ignore it anymore and I pounced on him. Jeff too. Then the next day while Jeff was at Home Depot trying to buy tiki lamp oil when all they have is Christmas stuff out in 90 degree weather...Nash said it again. "F'ing house" Instead of the time out I decided to dig further knowing he hasn't seen any F bomb movies.

Me: Nash, are you saying "F'ing house"?

Nash: Yes Mom

Me: Why are you saying that?

Nash: Seger get in the F'ing House right now....Daddy.

Busted big time, Jeff got a time out when he got home.

Nash's Natter

Nash has a third tooth that is loose. Its a top one. Its just hanging and I thought today at football it would fall out during the game in his mouthpiece. But it did not. So tonight I asked him if I could pull it out......like this

Me: Nash I will give you a dollar if you let me pull out your tooth. Deal?

Nash: No Deal.

Guess that settles it.

Nash's Joke

Nash's Knock Knock Joke from Jan and Vimeo.

I was cracking up so hard at Nash's pronunciation of Guzunteit that I couldn't continue...or spell it for that matter.

Nash's Natter

Nash had been getting up at all hours of the night during vacation (July 3rd on we were off work, at the lake, having fun etc). But what happened as soon as we had to gear up and go back to work Monday? Nash was still asleep at 7am.

Jeff went into his room, lay on the bed with him where he was all snuggled up under the covers and said "Buddy, we need to get up and get in the shower".

Nash, age 6, used Momma's line:

"Five more minutes....."

Yup, he got 5 more.

Sniff, Sniff....

I thought I loved Nash being 6; he's able to converse, he's reading sight word books, now writing his name (yeah!), saying cuss words, tells a mean knock, knock joke....just growing up! But then I found this..... Nash saying and signing Happy Mother's Day at 3 years old.........

Nash's Natter

Sitting on the couch, after teeth being brushed, jammies on, and stories being read, Momma, sitting by Nash, smells something pretty awful.

Me: Nash do you need to go to the bathroom?

Nash: No, I'm ok

Me: Nash do you have gas?

Nash: No, Seger farted.

The blame is already being passed on...............

Life goes on.........

Some people ask "how do you tell your child he/she has Down syndrome"? My response is, we always discuss Down syndrome, and Nash, and Ds and Nash together. Its no big deal. I might say "we are going to the Christmas party and you will see alot of kids that have Down syndrome". Or "Tarenne is coming this weekend. You know she has Down syndrome just like you"? Or, "sometimes its difficult for you to understand math, and it will take more time, because you have Down syndrome"....it just is.

Anyway, I got the "Life Goes On" DVD series for Nash and Jeff for Christmas. I never watched it when I was young, but Jeff did, and so under the Xmas tree it went. Nash has seen a few of the episodes since Christmas, but he is still obsessed with the Munsters and Scooby Doo movies. He really was interested when I showed him the pictures of him and Chris Burke together at the Buddy Walk last year, but that was right after Christmas.

But Friday night, he asked for Chris Burke, over and over. As I put it on for movie night, I said, Nash, you know Chris Burke has Down syndrome?

Nash: Yeah, I have Down syndrome too. Its cool.

wow............its all clicked.
