for Dad on your 80th birthday....miss you!

My Dad passed away about a week after Nash's first birthday on 2/20/02. Nash still talks about "Chuck Chuck" like he knew him... we show the scarce videos we have, and pictures. But sometimes Nash just talks like Grandpa Chuck Chuck is here.... hmmmmmmm

today Dad would be 80. I know if he would be here he and Nash would be Wendy's Frosty pals, hanging out at auctions, and just being pissy with each other, as they both loved to be!

Miss you Dad.....Happy 80th birthday!

It's been 7 years..............

Having Nash's 8th birthday this week made me realize how fast time passes....but the anniversary date of Dad's death makes it even more vivid for some reason.

Thinking, as always, of you Dad.

Happy Thanksgiving!

We are expecting family and friends over the weekend, and so wanted to wish all of you a very Happy Thankgsgiving.
I pieced together a Turkey Platter Dad had purchased during one of his antique forays in his final years; one that resulted in many a purchase near our home in Naperville/Wheaton Illinois area where we lived right after we got married. It was a nice Turkey Platter. And he wrote a little ditty to go along with it, which I placed on the platter today for this photo.

I was thinking of Dad again as I purchased some birdseed today; oily sunflower seeds. In my head I heard his annual "soooo do you have your winter bird feeding program established?" And I did just that.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Restoring The Sleigh

Paint and supplies $60.00 for
3 hrs of Jeff's labor $200.00
Imagining Dad watching over Jeff giving him "how to" instructions while sipping a scotch, priceless.

In remembrance......

My Dad and I shared a love for Robert Frost poetry. When he would recite "Flanders Fields" I used to think it was a Robert Frost poem. Now I know differently. Just as he would celebrate veterans day, as he was in the US Army during the Korean War, where he was based in Texas in the Medical Corps., but my mom used to poo-poo it saying he wasn't really a "veteran". Now I know differently.

Miss you Dad. Happy Veterans Day.

In Flanders Fields
By: Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD (1872-1918)
Canadian Army
IN FLANDERS FIELDS the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Happy Birthday Dad/Grandpa Chuck Chuck

You would have been 77 today; still to young to be away....

We miss you, and know you would be proud of the Tater!

Here is dad doing his "Chuck Chuck" with Nash as a newborn...thus his name "Grandpa Chuck Chuck"!
