Gifts : Mothers Reflect on How Children with Down Syndrome Enrich Their Lives

The Gifts Outreach program provides complimentary copies of Gifts to organizations which serve parents facing a new diagnosis of Down syndrome for their child, either prenatally or postnatally. We believe that the stories in the book provide a vital companionship and support for such parents.

NASCAR supports Down syndrome

Ok, maybe it should be Down syndrome supports NASCAR? Either way, its a good thing as Martha would say (Well she used to say before the pen, does she now? I digress as I am sure Martha has never addressed the issue/diagnosis of Tri21 in her life)

Anywho, right now, we are ecstatic that the DADS group and IDSF got sponsorship exposure, nationally, on a NASCAR- too cool. Here's the scoop from Nash's Dad:

Well you never know which person you meet in life that will be someone that can help your cause, your family or your group. My neighbor is in the racing industry and we have talked about NASCAR and the sponsorship work that he does many times and I always thought what a great way to get exposure. When we talked, the dollar amounts he shared with me that corporations pay for their logos on cars is amazing.

Well the most amazing thing happened last week when my neighbor called and asked if we could get him digital logos for our DADS and IDSF groups. He said there was some open space on the AJ Fike's #43 http://www.ajfike.com/html/biography.html car that was entered in the Kroger 200 Nascar race at Indianapolis Raceway Park, a race that benefited Riley Hospital for Children here in Indianapolis before the Brickyard race on Sunday. We are so excited that this exposure was made possible on National television, as the Dads Appreciating Down Syndrome (DADS) group and Indiana Down Syndrome Foundation (IDSF) were both discussed during the rain delay on TNT and MRN networks. Did anyone tape the race?

Many thanks to the RFMS Racing, AJ Fike and Jesse Dickerson VP of Corporate Marketing for making this happen. Enjoy the pictures.

Jeff, Dad to the Nashman

Love him!

Update: Received this wonderful thank you for all the emails (he told Jeff that the website hadn't received so many hits before!)

On behalf of the entire RFMS Racing Family, it was our honor to be associated with your organization for the race at IRP this past weekend. We hope that we were able to bring some additional awareness to your organization as we admire your strength, perseverance and hard work to educate the public to the needs of children with Down Syndrome.

We look forward to promoting you further as our relationship continues to expand. We also hope more of your members and families can make it out for next years race, it was quite a show.

All of your e-mails brought me goose bumps as I read them and your words are greatly appreciated. It reinforces the fact that we are accomplishing our internal organizational goals and that we ARE making a difference.

Although AJ didn't win the race, I still feel a victory in partnering with DADS and IDSF and we welcome any suggestions from all of your members in regards to promoting your organization through NASCAR in the future.

Once again, it was our pleasure to be affiliated with you, and feel free to contact me anytime if there is anything further I may be able to do.

Thanks for the friendship and fake NASCAR interest, as we know that gardening and NASCAR are so not enterwined. But the Tri21 awareness is, and that's what is important.

Now, go cultivate some beds.
