Gifts : Mothers Reflect on How Children with Down Syndrome Enrich Their Lives

The Gifts Outreach program provides complimentary copies of Gifts to organizations which serve parents facing a new diagnosis of Down syndrome for their child, either prenatally or postnatally. We believe that the stories in the book provide a vital companionship and support for such parents.

A little prayer if you could

A young gal from our local DSI group, Christina, who has a little guy named Blake, 9 months old, was just informed that Blake has leukemia. The type isn't known yet, or that I know of anyway.

A little prayer for Blake and strength for her? Blake was prenatally diagnosed and she is such a wonderful person. Blake is a cutie too.

UPDATE: Blake is having bone marrow tested today to see what kind of leukemia he has. His daddy is in Iraq and they are trying to get him home on emergency medical leave.

If you would be so kind to leave Blake and Christina a note, here is his page

Michael Treinen loses his leukemia battle

You may remember me blogging here about Michael Treinen, a 19 year old from our town of Noblesville battling leukemia, specifically AML. His story hit home as so many of our kids with Tri21 battle leukemia, yet having that extra chromosome is actually a benefit in the battle against cancer. Pretty cool in a cancer/extra-chromosome kinda way.

The other issue is that Michael's insurance was tapped at the 1 Million dollar mark. Many of our kids with tri21 have health issues that tap their funds early too which is so, so unfortunate. I so hope the communities in which children with Down sydrome need financial assistance would rally to their help, like Noblesville did for Michael.....

But Michael lost his battle before he could qualify for the stem cell transplant, as his remission didn't last. The story is here.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Treinen family, and I hope the money goes to good use to battle leukemia for all populations.

Keep a couple of our kids in your prayers...

Cutie pies RHETT and PARKER.

Parker is having a right heart cath which will reveal whether or not traching Parker has done it’s job and brought down his Pulmonary Hypertension levels. His mommy posted "It will let us know if we can finally plant our seeds of hope for a long future with Parker. The results from Parker’s last right heart cath were grim. They spoke of a severely shortened life span, of a childhood cut way too short." We all want Parky around for a very, very long time!

GO HERE to leave a prayer for Rhett for the family. Rhett is having all kinds of issues with a new NG tube, and we want it all fixed, properly, NOW as he has had to be readmitted several times since the tube was put in due to many issues......

prayers for these boys please.

If you say 'em, say 'em here.....

Prayers for Parker

That Parker’s pain could significantly decrease.

That Parker could have spiritual help in the major transition of breathing through his nose to learning to breathe through his trach.

That Parker’s heart could be filled with peace and the knowledge that this can and will get easier and better. That he can feel his family’s love and our devotion to his care.

That Parker’s sats would return to his baseline and he can be weaned from needing extra help from the CPAP to being able to maintain his baseline with only the trach mask.

That the doctors and nurses working with him can come up with a successful and spiritually inspired treatment plan to help him achieve his medical goals.

That Parker can return home to begin an amazing journey to becoming a healthy little kid.
